I would just like to thank you on behalf of the goondiwindi students that attended the Deadly Surf Camp. All students thought it was totally DEADLEY and i would love to be able to bring more of my students down whenever you have another one. Both yourself and Brett did a great job as well as all your helpers. My students really looked up to the coaches and spoke about there experiences the whole way home on the bus.

2009 Tweed River Paddle Challenge = huge success with over 200 participants from all ages and surfcraft. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful day out on the Tweed River as part of this annual celebration & festival.

Many thanks to North Burleigh Surf Club for putting on a delicious BBQ and the provision of water safety; also thanks to Body Science for the “Recovery Station” & rehydration throughout the day and their donation for the Dash for cash and first ever IRB Paddle Challenge!

IF spending two days in the surf won't be quite enough to get young surf lifesavers there, hanging out with four Aussie Olympic heroes should.

Four Gold Coast Olympians will be sharing their knowledge and love of surf lifesaving at this year's Junior Super Surf Camp at Currumbin over the holidays.

Olympians Ken Wallace, Ky Hurst, Meagen Nay and Ashley Callus will be at the Junior Super Surf Camp, joining hundreds of youngsters as they take to the surf to learn tips and techniques.

"It's great for our local Olympic stars to get back to the grassroots where a lot of it began and I know that the local kids are hanging to meet them and hear about their journey," he said.

"It's been Olympic year and they've done extremely well for their country but the bigger picture is they all started in surf lifesaving and they all were given the skills to pursue it. It shows there is a pathway for them to go on to greatness if they want to."

The junior surf camps have been running in Australia, New Zealand and Japan for more than a decade and are open to all clubs and their members, aged seven to 17, from beginners through to champions.

It has attracted enrolments from as far as Holland this year.

"The popular super surf camps up-skill our juniors as they make their annual pilgrimage back to the surf clubs for the summer months," said Mr Dowker, a three-time open Australian champion lifesaver.

The camp includes surf lifesaving sessions, fitness, water safety and rescue techniques, facilitated by Queensland's junior head coach Ty Dowker.

Brett Dowker said it was their biggest camp in Australia.

"Super surf camps will provide a very positive learning experience for the region's young surf lifesavers," he said.

"Parents like to know that their children possess the necessary confidence, skills, ability and awareness to handle themselves in the ocean.
